What to Expect when you see a Physiotherapist
Your physiotherapist will start by talking with you, your family, or a trusted caregiver about your health history, current issues and concerns, and what your goals for physiotherapy are.
Next your physiotherapist will complete a physical examination which may include (but is not limited to) watching you walk, moving your limbs, testing your muscle and nerve function, or assessing your heart rate or breathing.
Your physiotherapist may talk to other healthcare professionals involved in your care about your condition. This can ensure your physiotherapist gives you the highest quality of care possible.
After your physical examination, you and your physiotherapist will talk about the findings and your diagnosis.
You and your physiotherapist will develop an individualized treatment plan based on your goals and assessment. Your treatment plan may include (but is not limited to) personalized exercise programs, joint mobilization and manipulation, airway clearance techniques, modalities, gait re-training, work and occupational retraining, or pelvic floor reeducation.
Your physiotherapist will advise you on how to manage your condition independently upon discharge from physiotherapy to prevent recurrences or complications in the future.
